WIP Wednesday...

HA HA!

SO I can't sleep again... despite having had no nap, and very little sleep over the last few days... but hey! That's what pregnancy is about right... pushing your body to its limit to grow a new life. It's kind of fun to see how little sleep I can survive on and still be fun and kind to my kids. I actually have been better the last few days when I haven't napped, and I've been conciously working to make sure I'm spending quality time with them reading, singing playing... I might not get the chance in a few days/weeks... I'll have someone else to be looking after too.

I really really wanted to post about some of the baby knits I've started on since last Thursday, because I am SOOOOO excited about them. I ordered the yarn from knit picks which is an American company, but thanks to one of my friends who has an APO address over here, and since I spent over $50, I got free shipping. Hardly environmentally friendly I know, but it's a big treat, and I got exactly what I wanted, which wasn't happening with any of the stores over here, which seem to stock a lot of speciality yarn/wool, but no real range of colours or textures.

This is the owlie sleep sack. I love the owls on the cuff... and the photo doesn't do the yarn justice. It's called Merlot Heather, and it's multitonal. I'll have to get some photos in the daylight. There's a matching hat, and all the photos I've seen of this completed project are just the sweetest.

This is a vintage pattern nappy soaker. It's a really sleek design, very easy. Just one problem. The pattern comes out as an XL. As in, I think this would be too big for Willow the way it is written, and she's 18mths. So I've frogged it (BAH!!) and I've started again on a newborn-ish size which I hope will work out. I might try a larger one at some point if I have enough yarn.

This is a little seedling soaker. The pattern on the waistband and the crotch is a seed stitch, which is where the name comes from. I still need to do the ribbing on the legs, and for some reason I'm having a bit of brain freeze on how to pick up stitches... It closes a lot like a disposible nappy, and it can have buttons (I put the buttonholes in) or you can fix it with velcro (which I don't think looks as nice, but is probably very functional)

Here's the spatula I melted in the frying pan the other day when the Asda man arrived with our shopping... I've had it since I went to uni in 1999, so it was a relic... and probably due for replacement anyway... bah.

So yeah... keeping pretty busy... hoping every time I clean the bathroom will be the last time before the baby arrives... it would of course help if Eve would stop playing with the soap block and spreading it all around the units... and leaving bits of tissue paper on the floor... but hey. That's what children do.

I've got another few projects planned, but for now I'm concentrating on what I've got on the needles... on the other hand, it might be easier to cast on now while I don't have as many demands or distractions. Hmmm...

I'm planning to be super organised and have all my birthing stuff ready in boxes/bags. One to be grabbed for the hospital/post birth and one for labour. I know a lot of homebirthers who think it's bad luck to pack a hospital bag, but for several reasons I want to have one... mainly because I know I will be utterly miserable if we do end up there, and I'll need to have a few things to keep me going. Also because if we end up there SOMEONE is going to be staying with me the whole time because I am not being left at the mercy of nurses/midwives who think it's amusing to move buzzers out of the way of incapacitated patients so they can't ring for help.

The labour box is mainly because Nick doesn't know where stuff is, and I could do without the faffage... and if someone else is keeping me company (highly likely) they won't know where it is either. On the other hand, if I'm alone (also a possibility) It will be nice to have everything in one place instead of traipsing roudn the house looking for it all.

I've got some friends coming over on Saturday for a Mothers Blessing... I am SO looking forward to it. We're going to do a henna belly tattoo, and a red thread ceremony and they're going to bring me beads for my birth necklace (I also have some in the post from friends who are too far away to make it here in real life) I'm really excited to do some real preparation mentally for this birth and get myself zoned in to where I need to be.

Baby is doing good. Mover and a groover, especially this time of night, which is probably why I struggle to sleep. Feels like cartwheels some nights!!
