blood tests

well - next bulletin really i suppose :)

went to the doc's on monday to have the normal blood tests taken. Decided not to have the triple test as it only gives an idea of if you are high risk or low risk, which can actually be rubbish and inaccurate, and follows on to you needing to have a sample taken from the amnio sac around the baby - which has a small associated risk of miscarriage. It tells you if the baby has Downs syndrome or neural tube defects. In any case, we'll find out when the baby is born, and we wouldn't be getting rid of it even if we did take the test, so why subject the baby to that risk? (and breathe)

So, hopefully all the nasty blood test type things are done.... I hate it. they always have to jab me 2 or 3 times to find a vein. that's if i'm lucky and they figure out i'm a tricky customer with the first jab... otherwise i end up going through several different chairs and nurses, and i feel like a walking pin cushion - yay!

so here is the lovely photo :)

Not as good as i'd hoped, it's got ome lovely colours in it :)

oh - and i found this photo, should have really put it in sooner....

Oh and another funny thing. The topics of where i was planning to give birth came up at work today. Supervisor asked me if i was planning on going to Northampton Hosp. So i replied, "no, home". Very funny response (of course you may have had to be there) she was speechless for about 30 seconds (unheard of) and then said "this is your first?", "yes" i replied... another 30 seconds silence.... cogs turning... then "well, you have plenty of time to change your mind i suppose" !!!!!! i couldn't believe it!!!! as if there was something wrong with me for wanting a home birth, or that for some reason i would find some information that told me home birth was WRONG. LOL. mind you, she must have had her 2 kiddies fairly late - mid thirties, so it probably wasn't a walk in the park for her. Def harder than a young, fit 25 yr old such as myself ;)

Can't wait till she comes back with something else about my birth choice. She is very opinionated, but i know my reasoning, and it's not like her opinion really matters :) she's not a medical person.

Anyways, it's a looooong time till my scan (23 october) but i'm sure i'll come up with something else to add.... you never know, i might start getting fat and actually looking pregnant. Aparently all i have done so far is lose weight. which is weird, cuz i def feel heavier. Suppose it's ok if i've just lost fat :)

midwife appointment

well, we heard the babys heart for the first time on Tuesday!!

More good news is that the midwife doesn't see any problem with me having a home birth so that's fantastic. I just have to avoid having any problems, seeing a consultant or going into labour early or later than 42 weeks. Easy :S

Anyway, I have no more photos to show you, but it's only 26 weeks till the baby arrives!!

I think i'm going to have to have a photo taken of me so we can see the developing bump :)

scan number one

well i can't find the blog i wrote a few weeks ago. So we'll try it again.

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

Well, today was the first proper evidence we've seen that I've got a little person inside of me. (well, apart from the stinking morning sickness etc)

The scan was amazing. seeing him or her moving around, the little heart pumping away. I haven't been particularly excited about the scan, maybe because all my appointments with medical persons have been such a let down so far.

only 8 weeks until we get to see it again - bigger and hopefully clearer. can't wait :)
